Slovak pop singer Adéla has asked her fans not to destroy other artists’ promotional posters after someone ripped down a poster for a new album by British singer Rachel Chinouriri to take pictures next to an Adéla poster.

The 22-year-old singer took to her Instagram story on Wednesday to address the issue after returning to social media. According to the singer, she just found out.

“i have just redownloaded tik tok + ig and came across this way too late but u guys this is so f**king a**. please don’t do this. don’t take ppl’s posters down. promotion costs money, rachel’s posters cost money, they deserve to be up and seen. it’s alr hard enough to make sure ur art gets out there & is heard… ESPECIALLY as a black woman,” Adéla posted.

The scandal began earlier this month when a social media user wrote that he/she took down Chinouriri’s poster to take photos with Adéla’s poster standing nearby. As reported by some online sources, the incident took place in London, where the poster featuring Adéla referred to her hit single, “Ain’t in LA.”

Chinouriri, 27, reacted to the news publicly in early October. In a comment that went viral on fan forums, she said it’s already difficult enough for Black artists to gain publicity in pop music and that she had invested a lot of money in the promotion campaign and spent “10 years of hard work” convincing people she deserved this type of promotion. She followed up with a video comment on Oct. 7.

The posters promoted “I Think I Spoke Too Soon,” Chinouriri’s second studio album, coming out on Friday via Parlophone and Atlas Artists. The album’s lead single, “One Song Away From Crying,” was released in July.

Chinouriri is a London-based singer-songwriter of Zimbabwean descent who became famous with her debut, “What a Devastating Turn of Events.” The album won nominations for artist of the year and best new artist at the Brit Awards in 2025. Adele has praised her music, and Chinouriri opened for Sabrina Carpenter during the U.K. and European leg of the Short n’ Sweet Tour. She is set to open for Gracie Abrams during the North American arena leg of her tour in December.

For years, Chinouriri has emphasized the difficulties Black women face in indie and pop music. In 2022, she even wrote an open letter to the record executives trying to push her towards soul and R&B.

Adéla, whose full name is Adéla Jergová, was born in Bratislava, Slovakia. She first gained popularity in 2023 on The Debut: Dream Academy, the competition show that resulted in the creation of the girl group Katseye. Although she was eliminated, she launched her solo career and signed with Capitol Records soon.

Her debut album “Prima” was released on Sept. 4 and debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. The single “Ain’t in LA” made Adéla the first Slovak artist to make it to the Billboard Hot 100, while Nicole Kidman climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard Global 200 chart for the week dated Oct. 3. Adéla is currently on her first headlining tour called Red Bottoms Tour, which will go to Europe and the U.K. in January.

Many fans praised Adéla on social networks for calling out her own fans and for bringing attention to Chinouriri’s album.
