Rep. Nancy Mace posted a Sunday video that hilariously ridicules anyone criticizing her for attending a South Carolina football game, after a weekend when a photo from one stadium drew millions of views on social media.
The approximately 43-second video shows the South Carolina Republican appropriating her critics’ language before announcing she would keep going to games.
“I’ve had some time to reflect on my attendance at a college football game last night and then had the nerve to tweet about it,” Mace said. “So this post goes out to all the liberals, libtards, socialists, leftists, and trolls that don’t think women should attend football games or cheer for their team with their college football chant. I want you to know that I’ve unpacked your lived experiences and I’ve centered your truth and your feelings. Your feelings are valid. But despite all of that, I’m unburdened by what has been. And so I’m going to attend; I’ve decided I’m going to attend the next football game and enjoy the hell out of it.”
It followed a post that Mace had made on Saturday from the stands at Williams-Brice Stadium. She posted a picture of the crowded stadium with the comment “Go COCKS,” dressed in black lace and giving a thumbs-up, while adding another one tagged “IYKYK.” Her comment sparked many memes and opinions, with some even asking about her dress. Mace, who turned 48 in January, has been representing South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District since 2021.
The game wasn’t as successful as she had hoped. Kamario Taylor passed for 251 yards and four touchdowns as Mississippi State overcame an early 16-0 deficit to defeat South Carolina 41-34 in its SEC opener. The Gamecocks took an early lead with a touchdown pass from LaNorris Sellers and three field goals by first-year kicker Malik Orson. Still, Taylor responded with 30-yard and 43-yard touchdown passes to Sanfrisco Magee and Zion Ragins. Lightning delayed the kickoff for an hour and 20 minutes. South Carolina fell to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the SEC, while Beamer told reporters after the game that the defeat wouldn’t define his team. Saturday’s crowd marked the program’s 19th consecutive sellout, the eighth-longest active streak in the nation.
Representing The Citadel, South Carolina’s public military college, Mace conceded the Republican primary for governor on June 9th. She informed her supporters that she believes her candidacy is doomed due to her breaking away from the party regarding the release of Epstein files. She won’t run for re-election and won’t appear on the June primary ballot for the 1st District.
Her term ends in January.
