A Pennsylvania woman, Aleisia Owens, 20, is facing serious charges after being accused of fatally poisoning her boyfriend’s baby with batteries and other toxic substances.

As reported by the NY Post, Owens was arrested on Thursday following an autopsy that revealed fatal levels of acetone in the baby’s blood, along with screws and nail polish remover.

Living with her boyfriend, Bailey Jacoby, Owens was entrusted with the baby while Jacoby went to the store on June 25, 2023. It’s noteworthy that the child resided with her mother, Emily Alfera, while Jacoby had visitation rights.

Upon receiving a distress call from Owens about his baby girl, Jacoby rushed home to find his daughter unresponsive and immediately dialed 911. Unfortunately, the baby succumbed to organ failure four days later.

Owens initially claimed the baby had hit her head falling off the bed, mentioning the baby “cramped up.” However, the autopsy contradicted this account, revealing the ingestion of “water beads,” button-shaped batteries, and a metal screw months before her death, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

A search of Owens’s phone unveiled her inquiries into household products that could cause serious harm or death to a child. Subsequently, Owens is charged with homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault of a child, endangering the welfare of a child, and other offenses related to the baby’s death and prior acts of abuse.
