2 comments CALL HER ALEX - “First Look” - What does it take to become the most influential female podcaster of a generation? Following Alex Cooper as she prepares for her first tour, this compelling two-part documentary series traces Cooper's evolution—from a self-conscious kid growing up in Pennsylvania to the voice behind “Call Her Daddy,” a podcast that redefined the conversation for women everywhere. Directed by Ry Russo-Young ("Nuclear Family"), the series offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the life-defining events that shaped Cooper’s journey as she grew from a 24-year-old woman with a sex and dating podcast to the CEO of a media empire in just six years. More than just a success story, it's a portrait of a woman who is creating a space where women feel seen, heard, and empowered. (Disney) ALEX COOPER

After decades of helping others dump their secrets, lay out their traumas, and take back their power with a mic, the queen of podcasting herself is finally ready to let the world into hers. Yes, Alexandra Cooper, the blonde bombshell whose unfiltered episodes revolutionized the game, is getting bare in Hulu’s unapologetic, two-part docuseries Call Her Alex, which premieres June 10. And honey, it’s not just unapologetic; it’s revolutionary.

This is not a sob story. This is a blueprint for domination.

From the Sidelines to Center Stage: How Trauma Made a Titan

In an exclusive first look with People, the series pulls back the glitz to show the grunge. Call Her Alex behind the scenes of Cooper’s off-stage life as she gets ready for her first-ever live tour and looks back on a journey that’s anything but conventional. The trailer itself is a gut test of domestic video imagery, introducing us to young Alex as a camera addict who insists on our attention, a born storyteller raised and trained in a household that prized big opinions and eccentricity.

But this is not a fairy tale. Cooper was just 19 when her dreams were broken playing Division I soccer in college. She doesn’t fully name the trauma in the trailer, but her words are combustible: “I went through something really painful. It was all taken away from me.” This is not clickbait. It’s a wound that still smarts.

As she told Cosmopolitan in 2023, “This one topic just sits in a drawer in my brain… I’m not going to take myself there until I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m really ready.” Well, surprise. She’s ready. And she’s not here to play small.

Call Her Alex

She Didn’t Just Join the Boys’ Club. She Burned It Down

When she emerged on the horizon with Call Her Daddy, podcasting was a virtual frat house. Men occupied the air, dispensing advice and anecdotes to listeners who’d never previously heard women talking about sex, self-esteem, and power so candidly.

“She changed the game,” states Barstool Sports creator Dave Portnoy in the trailer, and for once, the man is right. Cooper didn’t ask for an invitation to the party. She flipped the entire shebang on its head. Her podcasting career started at Barstool, then moved to Spotify, and finally went on to become her own media empire, Unwell.

And don’t get it confused. She ain’t no pretty face with a mic. Cooper is an entrepreneur, content strategist, producer, and trailblazer who converted vulnerability to valuation. She broke even podcasting, especially for women.

Off the Empire, the docuseries gives a remarkably candid glimpse into Cooper’s life off-air, which she has famously kept under wraps. There is footage of her April 2024 wedding to The Perfect Date producer and new husband Matt Kaplan, a power broker in his own right.

We also glimpse the people who contributed to her off-air persona, such as her father, Bryan, who speaks about how Call Her Daddy evolved over time, as did his daughter’s own evolution.

But Cooper makes it best. “I have so much more that I want to do,” she says in the trailer. “And I’m just getting started.” That is not a threat. That is a promise. And we are here for it.

The Era of Alex Has Arrived

Call Her Alex isn’t a docuseries. It’s a mic drop. It’s the moment the woman who has given permission to millions of individuals to reclaim their voices at last takes hers in all technicolor. Cooper’s story isn’t wrapped with a bow. It’s raw, it’s ugly, it’s victorious, and it was too darn late.

On June 10, when both episodes of Call Her Alex debuted on Hulu, the internet better prepared itself. Because if you thought Call Her Daddy was Cooper loose, Call Her Alex is Cooper unleashed.

She’s not just telling her story. She’s rewriting the story for what it means to be a woman in the media. And if you’re not paying attention, you’re already behind.

Watch Call Her Alex on Hulu, June 10. And don’t merely watch it. Study it.
