Alix Earle, the TikTok beauty who gained fame for her “Get Ready With Me” videos, confesses she hasn’t read any books since she was a child unless one considers Dr. Seuss to be a book.
The 25-year-old beauty said in an Instagram video with Mel Ottenberg, editor-in-chief of Interview magazine. On Monday, Interview published the short Q&A video.
“What’s the last book you’ve read?” asked Ottenberg. “I’ve never read a book,” giggled Earle. “Like, maybe Dr. Seuss,” she added, referring to children’s author Theodor Seuss Geisel, who penned “The Cat in the Hat” and other well-known books.
Seated in a white robe, Earle addressed a flurry of other questions in the video. When asked if it is OK to bring iced coffee to a job interview, she said, “I don’t really see the problem with that. I guess that’s a Gen Z problem.”
Her response quickly made waves online, prompting reactions ranging from joking to scathing in Interview’s Instagram comment section and across other platforms.
Several people commented sarcastically. “Hot smoking bikini blonde with big boobs has never read a book? Mind-blowing,” one commenter posted.
Others weren’t impressed. One Reddit user who shared a screenshot of the interview captioned it “Embarrassing but not surprised.” Another suggested Earle’s publicist give her “a title to say” in such situations; the response was “so gross,” the commenter wrote.
Other people took the question as a commentary on the state of American literacy. “PSA in the middle of the literacy crisis: Reading makes you hot and cool,” one user posted. Another person asked if she “hasn’t been assigned To Kill a Mockingbird in 9th grade?”
The news surprised some of Earle’s fans, given her academic background. She graduated from the University of Miami in 2023, majoring in business administration with a focus on marketing, and her career took off while she was still a student.
Only a few weeks after graduating, she established the Alix Earle Scholarship at the University of Miami’s Patti and Allan Herbert Business School to help junior and senior students who show great promise in the business world.
As Earle told the Miami Herald, she set up the scholarship because she felt so supported at the University of Miami as her career took off. She came back to the Coral Gables campus in 2025 to present scholarships to this year’s recipients, Kaleab Bekele and Jimmy Ayash.
Her rise doesn’t seem tied to the brand, based on what I’ve read. Her popularity seems to stem from her frankness and relatability: she shoots makeup videos while openly talking about her acne and sharing the ups and downs of her personal life.
This approach has made her one of the most influential creators online, with nearly 15 million followers on TikTok and Instagram, Fortune reported.
In 2024, she became the first-ever digital cover star of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit and returned to shoot for the cover in Jamaica in 2025. This year, she got the title of cover model after a shoot in Botswana with photographer Ruven Afanador.
In March, she launched Reale Actives, a skincare brand for acne-prone skin. Fortune reported that on its first day, the brand generated $5 million in sales and sold out by 4 p.m. On September 22, the latest product, a $39 serum named Go Calm that helps reduce redness, will be available.
She is featured in the Netflix reality series “Earle Meets World,” which premiered on September 4 and drew 1.8 million viewers in its first week, Deadline reported. She is hosting a Hot Mess podcast, competing in Dancing With the Stars, and starring in two Super Bowl commercials.
