The live-action version of the movie, which was produced by Amazon, MGM Studios, and Mattel Studios, will be released in the United States starting June 5, 2026. It will also be released in other countries in June through Sony Pictures International Releasing.
Based on the popular 1980s toy line and franchise, “Masters of the Universe” is the newest big-screen revival of He-Man and Eternia. This follows the global success of “Barbie,” the next big-screen entry from Mattel Studios’ growing slate.
Under the direction of Travis Knight, the film brings the popular franchise back to screens everywhere in a big, live-action adventure about heroic transformation and self-discovery. The movie tells the story of Prince Adam (Nicholas Galitzine), who has been separated from Eternia for 15 years, until the Sword of Power brings him back. Once back, he discovers that Eternia has been taken over by evil Skeletor, played by Jared Leto.
To save his family and the world, Adam will join forces with his close friends, Teela (Camila Mendes) and Duncan, aka Man-At-Arms (Idris Elba). Adam will need to accept his role as He-Man, “the most powerful man in the universe.”
The cast also consists of Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, and Charlotte Riley. Kristen Wiig voices Roboto. Leto and Elba star alongside Galitzine and Mendes.
The script is written by Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee, along with additional writing provided by Dave Callaham. The story is written by Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, Alex Litvak, and Michael Finch. The movie is inspired by the story ‘Masters of the Universe,’ which is owned by Mattel.
The producers of this movie are Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, Steve Tisch, and DeVon Franklin. The film has executive producers such as Ynon Kreiz, Bill Bannerman, and David
“He-Man has been represented in cartoons, toys, comic books, and movies, so it’s become common knowledge that spans across several decades,” the studios said in a statement about releasing the movie. The film promises significant action, visual effects, and nostalgia for older fans.
The film, titled “Masters of the Universe,” is designed to be an event film with big-screen action and effects. Studios predict that the film’s universal themes and high-energy action will appeal to film-goers regardless of whether they are familiar with the property. The franchise, owned by Mattel, has brought joy to fans for over 40 years, and this film is among its most popular creations. However, with this latest adaptation, Mattel Studios continues to pursue its goal of turning its most popular creations into feature films, following the success of “Barbie.”
