Lionsgate released the new trailer for Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz’s Antebellum starring Janelle Monáe. She is chosen to travel back in time to a terrible part in history.
Monáe plays a woman in the present day who has a good and happy life, but then she’s kidnapped and forced back into slavery through time travel. From there, she has to fight back to escape not only slavery, but to return to her own time.
This is very dangerous task for Monáe to do because she could die just looking at slave master the wrong way. She could die if she spoke to the slave master the wrong way. She could also die if she get caught trying to runaway. Honestly, anyone who wasn’t white time traveling back to the past would be very dangerous. White men could time travel back to the past and be just fine. White women could travel back in time still have better chance at survival than any minorities. They would have no rights but they wouldn’t have to fear for their life.
Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz came up with a brilliant idea to really make people appreciate the time they are in right now. Back then we would worry about how we are going to survive for that day. Nowadays people only focus how many likes and comments they get on Instagram.
Kiersey Clemons, Gabourey Sidibe, Jena Malone, Jack Huston, Eric Lange, Tongayi Chirisa, Robert Aramayo, and Marque Richardson also star in this film.
Antebellum could possibly still delay their movie past August because some major cities are still going to do the stay at home order until July. Which means theaters probably won’t be back open until like October. It would be a bad idea to have 100s of people in a theater together.
Antebellum is set to hit theaters on August 21st.
