Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., accused President Donald Trump of neglecting his duties in favor of stock market activity on Tuesday, after his financial disclosures revealed more than 3,700 trades in the first quarter of 2026.
The trades were reportedly valued at hundreds of millions of dollars and included shares of major companies such as Netflix and JP Morgan, and were executed by independent third-party investment managers operating with discretionary authority over diversified portfolios, with automated rebalancing a standard arrangement for wealthy officeholders seeking to avoid conflicts of interest.
Ocasio-Cortez made the remarks in response to questions from Meidas Touch reporter Pablo Manriquez.
“Hey, Congresswoman. So Donald Trump has made 3,700 stock trades in the first quarter of this year,” Manriquez said. “How does he have any time to be president?”
“I mean, he’s spending all of his time day trading,” Ocasio-Cortez replied. “He has no time to be president. That’s why gas is $5 a gallon, and that’s why everything’s more expensive, and that’s why people can’t pay their rent or mortgage, because the person who’s supposed to be president is busy on E-Trade all day.”
