Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued in a video that the president’s properties, like his golf courses and Mar-a-Lago, should be used to build data centers as an act of defiance against his efforts to expand those facilities nationwide.
This came after President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, that communities rejecting the idea of building data centers could end up left behind and poor, as the projects would create job opportunities and bring technological advancement as demand for artificial intelligence increases.
Ocasio-Cortez had a list of properties to use as project sites.
“I mean, again, I say, put one in Mar-a-Lago. Let’s put a data center in each one of Donald Trump’s golf courses,” she said.
She began listing the properties, beginning with one of the president’s golf courses outside New York City. “Let’s put one in New Jersey on his golf course,” she added.
She referred to the president’s golf course near her district, then moved back to the Florida club.
“Let’s put one, you know, I mean, we got rid of Trump links in my district. It would be to somewhere else. I think, put a data center in Mar-a-Lago, put a data center, you know,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez refrained from suggesting using one of the president’s federal properties, saying it’s because the president is expected to leave office soon.
“The only reason I don’t say put one on the White House lawn is that he’ll be out of there soon, and hopefully there’ll be a Democrat in there,” she said.
She ended her speech by turning his love for data center projects on the president.
“But, you know, I think, you know, if he loves them so much, he can have them,” she concluded.
The clip ends with the congresswoman moving on to another topic. “There’s eight Democratic guest votes on the…” she said.
