Ilhan Omar, a Democrat congresswoman representing Minnesota, criticized American participation in the current Iran War during the week, stating that according to an assessment by the Department of Defense, expenses incurred directly in the war have exceeded $25 billion.

The Iran War commenced in mid-February 2026 when U.S. and Israeli forces launched air attacks against Iran’s military installations and its leadership. Following failed attempts at ceasefires, the United States has initiated a naval blockade against Iranian ports.

“The Iran War has cost the U.S. over $25 billion so far,” Omar wrote on X. “Our taxes shouldn’t pay for murdering school children, decimating towns, displacing millions of civilians, and fueling generational devastation. Our tax dollars should invest in the needs of working people, not war.”
