Nafessa Williams stars as Anissa Pierce/Thunder in The CW’s hit drama “Black Lightning.”
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Williams has always had an affinity for acting. She started her career as a model while juggling school at West Chester University where she graduated and intended to pursue a degree in law. After working in the homicide department for the D.A.’s office, she realized law was not her path. She began to grow her skills and started taking acting classes with Tasha Smith and Susan Batson, and those classes would soon pay off as she booked her first job on “One Life to Live.” It was then that she decided to move to Los Angeles and pursue acting fulltime and has since been seen on television shows including “Code Black,” “Survivor’s Remorse,” “Real Husbands of Hollywood” and the highly-anticipated reboot of “Twin Peaks.”
Williams film credits include “Black and Blue,” “True to the Game” and “Burning Sands,” which premiered at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and is streaming on Netflix.
When Williams isn’t filming, she enjoys spending time working on her online fashion boutique “Saturday Dreaming,” which is inspired by women following their dreams and embracing their individuality. She also loves staying in shape physically and mentally through running and meditation. Williams believes that everyone should live their purpose and hosts the VIP Happy Hour (YouTube) with her friends where they inspire and motivate women to live the life that is destined for them and to be #girlbosses. Williams is also passionate about giving back to the community, which includes feeding the homeless on Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles through The Peggy Beatrice Foundation.
Williams speaks about black women being the most disrespected people in America. Williams also spoke on her acting career and gave great advice for anyone who’s chasing their dream. She spoke on season 4 of ‘Black Lightning’ and her sisterhood with China McClain.
