Coi Leray has announced her departure from Republic Records, revealing that she has signed a new deal with Island Records for her current musical era. The move comes after what Leray described as creative differences with her former label.

In a recent Instagram Live session, the artist behind the Trendsetter album opened up about the challenges she faced at Republic Records. “I’m not on Republic Records no more. I’m on Island,” Coi Leray confirmed. She further elaborated on the label’s expectations, stating, “When I dropped Blue Moon, Republic, they wanted pop shit. They wanted some Taylor Swift/Ariana Grande shit, which I can do, but I still like to work at my own pace and my own time.”

Leray also expressed her commitment to evolving her sound and suggested that Republic Records was reluctant to invest in promoting her Blue Moon EP, released in 2023. The album’s performance reflected the lack of label support, with neither Blue Moon nor her 2022 debut studio album, The Trendsetter, making a significant impact on the Billboard 200 chart. The Trendsetter peaked at No. 89, while 2023’s Coi reached No. 102. Blue Moon failed to chart altogether.

Despite these setbacks, Coi Leray has seen some commercial success, with her single “Players” landing a spot in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Collaborations like “No More Parties” with Lil Durk and “Blick Blick” featuring Nicki Minaj also achieved Top 40 placements.
