Fans are calling out 59-year-old Superman actor Dean Cain after he seemed to comment on and share a couple of social media posts that mocked the looks of 26-year-old Supergirl actress Milly Alcock.
It all started when someone tweeted a photo of the actress in her Supergirl outfit with the comment, “Wait… If Supergirl’s skin is bulletproof how does she have ear piercings??” Cain then retweeted it with a thinking face emoji.
Next, another user took side-by-side photos of Alcock with that of Cha-Ka, a shaggy prehistoric humanoid character from the 1970s children’s show Land of the Lost, and questioned, “And why does she look like this guy?”
Instead of leaving the comment alone, Cain seemed to respond directly to the post, tweeting, “Dang it… I laughed.”
Social media users were immediately critical and told Cain that it was unprofessional for him to use his platform to make fun of a young woman and promote harassment.
One user noted, “I can’t believe I grew up watching this guy play Superman. To see him serve and feed on Internet hate towards another person, especially a young woman, makes me really sad.”
Cain, who was the Clark Kent/Superman of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman from 1993-1997. Alcock will be the new Supergirl in James Gunn’s upcoming DC Studios film Superman.
