An 18-year-old New Hampshire man has been charged with second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of his 21-year-old sister, who was found on a rural road Monday morning, according to state officials.
Logan Anderson was arrested on Monday and charged with a single count of second-degree murder in connection with knowingly causing the death of Leah Anderson by shooting her, according to a statement by Attorney General John M. Formella in conjunction with New Hampshire State Police Col. Mark B. Hall and Thornton Police Department Chief Daniel J. Gilman.
Officers discovered Leah Anderson on Mad River Road in Thornton on Monday, suffering from a gunshot wound to her head following a 911 call at about 8:20 a.m. She was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.
Leah Anderson was a student at Plymouth State University, where she was majoring in elementary education. She graduated from Plymouth Regional High School in 2023.
Donald Birx, president of Plymouth State University, stated that Leah had a profound effect on those who knew her. “Those who knew Leah speak of a young woman whose kindness touched those around her,” Birx said.
Kyla Welch, superintendent of SAU 48, indicated that Anderson had a true love of working with children and had worked directly with them in the Campton after-school program.
Logan Anderson is being held in preventive detention pending a court appearance; he is expected to be arraigned in the 2nd Circuit District Court in Plymouth. An investigation into her death is ongoing.
Logan Anderson’s charges are allegations, and he is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.
