Diamond White has been spending her career voicing animated characters. Fans are now eager to see her face.
In an interview with Where Is The Buzz, the actress and singer, known for voicing Fuli in The Lion Guard and playing the title role in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, said she would be happy to play Tiana in a live-action project Disney is developing.
“Disney is my family. My first voice-over role was with them. I love them. I’d be honored to have the chance to play anything they send my way,” White explained.
Despite the lack of a casting announcement, Diamond White’s name has been mentioned in fan casting discussions alongside Coco Jones, Jayme Lawson, and Normani. However, White doesn’t feel any pressure from all this buzz.
“Hell yeah, I’d want that role,” White said. “As a kid, I had a Disney princess checkerboard my Grandady gave me, and I used to play with it. It would be a dream.”
The upcoming project is expected to be an original story, not a remake of the 2009 animated movie The Princess and the Frog. Thus, it won’t feature those songs associated with the character, such as “Almost There” and “Down in New Orleans”. Colman Domingo and Robert O’Hara are attached to the project.
Annie Award winner Diamond White says the idea of new material doesn’t bother her, and she adds another personal detail about her connection to the role.
“I just found out I’m Creole. I love learning about different cultures. My perfect princess is just me, depending on the day, hehehehehe. I go with the flow. I can’t vibe on ‘worry.’ I’ve been through a lot just like Tiana,” she said.
The character has experienced some tough times at the studio lately. Disney canceled an animated Tiana series planned for 2025, and Anika Noni Rose, who originated the role, encouraged fans to attend the Tiana Special Event, saying she was disappointed the story was being shortened.
Asked what she owes fans whose hopes and dreams were dashed, and what she wants Anika Noni Rose to know, Diamond White answered briefly.
“I’d say let’s f***ing go lol,” she said.
