Donald Trump takes aim at John Legend and Chrissy Teigen for not crediting him for criminal justice reform

Following Legend’s appearance on MSNBC as part of a special town hall on criminal justice reform hosted by Lester Holt, President Trump lashed out at the musician and wife Chrissy Teigen for not giving him enough credit for his criminal justice reforms.

In December 2018, Trump signed the First Step Act into law after it was passed in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The act reduces mandatory minimum sentences in certain cases and will see more than 3,000 inmates released.

However, during the Dateline episode that preceded the town hall on Sunday night, Holt did explicitly give Trump credit for passing the law, showing footage of him signing the bill in the Oval Office and noting that is “projected to reduce the sentences of thousands of non-violent offenders in federal prisons.”

The first lady’s Be Best initiative initially aimed to focus on addressing three main “pillars”: well-being, social media usage, and opioid abuse among children.
