Netflix has officially approved “First Doctor”, a fresh medical drama with Hong Jong Chan as the director and Kim Min Suk as the screenwriter, known for their previous collaboration “Juvenile Justice”.

The series will follow the staff of a soon-to-close pediatric surgery division as they try to keep the most vulnerable alive. Unlike other medical dramas, “First Doctor” will feature a systemic crisis and focus on interpersonal relationships, providing an emotional portrayal of those who do not give up hope.

Jung Ryeo Won takes the role of Heo Ji-wan, a talented and straightforward pediatric surgeon dubbed “the hospital’s troublemaker”. Following an accident, Ji-wan returns to Yeonhwa University Hospital, where she decides to save the hospital and its young patients from collapse.

At Yeonhwa University Hospital, Ji-wan often gets into conflict with Ki Eun-gyeol, a smart and witty third-year resident portrayed by Ha Yoon-Kyoung. This actress starred in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, “Hospital Playlist Season 2”, and “Undercover High School”.

Among others in the cast are Bek Hyun-Jin, who plays Head of Surgery Son Sang-baek, and Kim Jong-Soo, who plays Vice Director Lee Chang-gon. The series will explore the political conflicts at Yeonhwa University Hospital and Ji-wan’s loneliness.

The cast is completed by Kim Moo-Yul, who will play Bae Su-wol, a charismatic anesthesiology professor and a longtime confidant of Ji-wan. This is the third collaboration of Kim and Hong after “Teach You a Lesson” and “Juvenile Justice”. Kim Moo-Yul starred in such shows as “Sweet Home Seasons 2 & 3”.

This upcoming series, created by Kim Min Suk and directed by Hong Jong Chan, is expected to become the next hit on Netflix.

Premiere date will be announced later.
