In an exclusive interview, our very own Kori Nicole Barnes sat down with Christian Convery and Nonso Anozie to discuss the highly anticipated third season of Netflix’s hit series “Sweet Tooth.” The actors shared insights into their characters’ fears, the evolving dynamics of their relationships, and the thrilling new journey ahead.
Characters’ Fears Unveiled
With the new season on the horizon, Convery and Anozie revealed the anxieties their characters face. Convery, who plays Gus, expressed that Gus’s primary fear is the unknown fate of his mother, Birdie, and the heavy responsibility he carries for the survival of hybrids and humans alike. “I think Gus was most scared about losing the people that he has led on this journey because he’s taken the leadership role throughout the third season and people are really depending on him now,” Convery noted. “Gus is not as much dependent on jeopard it’s kind of the opposite now so I think that’s what Gus was also scared about and he was also scared about in general just like his safety and and the world not collapsing and hybrids not dying and the sick getting cured and so much stuff that he has to be scared about and worried about.”
Anozie, portraying the rugged Tommy Jepperd, highlighted his character’s fear of failing those he’s grown to protect, particularly Gus. “I really feel like he’s worried that he’s not going to be able to come good on his promise,” Anozie explained. “He promised the little man that he’d help him make it to see his mother.”
The Importance of Gus and Jepperd’s Bond
Central to the series is the profound relationship between Gus and Jepperd, which both actors emphasized as a cornerstone of Season 3. “I think one of the themes is finding a family, basically you know you may not have a family you may not have a brother and sister by blood you may not have a mom and dad by blood but people that you meet and connect to can be just as strong,” said Anozie. “I feel that that is the message that we’re going to get from this and it’s I think carried through the entire series of Sweet Tooth.”
Convery added, “It’s really about who you choose your family it’s not just about blood but it’s who you choose.”
Season 3: New Adventures and Perils
Following their victory over General Abbot at Pubba’s Cabin, Gus, Jepperd, Becky (Stefania LaVie Owen), and Wendy (Naledi Murray) embark on a perilous journey to Alaska in search of Birdie (Amy Seimetz). Their path is fraught with danger as they encounter new adversaries like Helen Zhang (Rosalind Chao) and her daughter Rosie (Kelly Marie Tran), alongside the formidable Wolf Boys.
Adding to the complexity is Dr. Singh (Adeel Akhtar), who accompanies the group with his own contentious views on Gus’s role in reversing the deadly Sick virus. Amidst these trials, the group finds temporary refuge at the Outpost in Alaska, meeting new characters like Siana (Cara Gee) and her hybrid daughter Nuka (Ayazhan Dalabayeva).
A Thrilling Climax
As they race against time to uncover the origins of the virus and save humanity, alliances are tested, and destinies are forged. Season 3 promises to deliver a dramatic climax that will determine the fate of both humans and hybrids, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats.
