If you don’t know her from her best-selling book, you certainly know her from her hit series. Japanese organizing expert Marie Kondo took the entire world by storm in 2019 with the debut of Tidying Up With Marie Kondo, which introduced viewers to her signature KonMari Method, a process for organizing and tidying that encourages keeping only those things that speak to the heart and discarding items that no longer, as she says, spark joy.
Kondo returns to Netflix on Tuesday, Aug. 31 with a brand new series, Sparking Joy With Marie Kondo, which debuts with three 40-minute episodes that find Marie taking her signature method and applying it outside the home. “The impact of tidying is delightfully surprising, emotional and transformative, and we see how it can be applied to businesses, relationships, and communities, making room for meaningful experiences in people’s lives,” Kondo says of the new series and how it builds upon the fundamentals we first saw in Tidying Up.
In this exclusive sneak peek at the deeply transformative series, Marie is seen greeting a church that one of her clients attends and which is also in need of her expertise. “Tidying is a dialogue. Just as you would introduce yourself at the beginning of a conversation, greeting a space sets a gracious tone and decreases any tension that you might have going into the process,” explains Kondo. “It is another way to show appreciation for your space, whether a home, office, or community space, and all that it provides for you.”
Sparking Joy also offers viewers an inside look at Marie’s own home and family, as well as how she sparks, and chooses, joy in her own life. Don’t miss it when Sparking Joy With Marie Kondo releases Tuesday, Aug. 31 on Netflix.
