The Houston Police Department (HPD) has put Officer Ashley Gonzalez on administrative leave after receiving a video from FOX 26 that shows the officer calling someone a racial slur multiple times, including at a time when she was arresting the person.
HPD officials say they are aware of the video and have begun an investigation; however, they cannot confirm or deny that Officer Gonzalez appears in it.
FOX 26 said that it will not air the entire video; however, it described the woman shown there as using a racial slur towards Blacks multiple times.
In one instance, she is shown talking about her recent arrest, where she used the slur against the arrestee. At another time, she said she felt calm after saying those words.
The HPD did not reveal how long this investigation would take.
HPD stated that it expects its officers to maintain high standards of conduct. Officer Ashley Gonzalez has not commented publicly yet.
