Adult film star Asia Carrera, a former Mensa member and concert pianist at Carnegie Hall, has passed the Texas bar exam, TMZ reported on Wednesday.
According to TMZ, Carrera’s name is listed among those who have passed the Texas bar examination, which she took last month, in February. She made the announcement on Facebook with the following caption: “I PASSED THE BAR EXAM!!!! ASIA ESQUIRE, Y’ALL!!!!!”
The aspiring lawyer is scheduled to participate in the oath-taking ceremony for new lawyers in Texas on April 27 in Austin.
The multi-talented performer was born to a Japanese father and a German mother. From an early age, Carrera demonstrated academic promise as well as artistic talent, performing Bach in Carnegie Hall at age 13. She later attended Rutgers University in New Jersey to study Japanese and economics. At some point during her teen years, Carrera ran away from her parents’ high expectations.
To finance her education, she worked as a stripper and eventually became an adult movie actress in 1993. During her career, Carrera starred in more than 350 movies and was the first Asian to receive the prestigious AVN award – Woman of the Year in 1995. In 2003, she retired from the adult industry after getting married.
Despite having worked in the adult film industry, Carrera always portrayed herself as a highly educated woman. As a member of Mensa, she had a reputation for being an intellectual. In 2012, Carrera starred in the documentary “After P*rn Ends,” which chronicled her life after leaving adult movies.
In her Facebook post dated March 26th, Carrera revealed her success with an exciting twist: during her visit to a Pizza Hut restaurant in Texas, her son Devin’s manager recognized her from a documentary about Carrera’s former life on the G4 gaming network.
“I thought I was completely incognito here in Texas, just another law student waiting to pass the bar, y’know?” she commented. “I think results come out April 15th, stay tuned…”
According to Carrera, she and her son had fun sharing the story of their encounter with the manager, who signed a photo for her with the following message: “Dear XXX, Cover me in pepperoni and cheese, Love Asia Carrera.”
Carrera then poked fun at herself for trying to promote herself by posting naked photos back in the day. “It’s just naked pictures of me, I really can’t hype it up beyond that,” she said sarcastically. Carrera added that if her “faded star of yesteryear” could help her son get ahead at work, she was happy for him to make use of it.
As for why Carrera decided to pursue a career in law, the reason is still unknown. According to TMZ, she “appears to have genuinely studied law, passed the bar, and is ready to become a lawyer.”
