Congresswoman Lauren Boebert disclosed that she intends to craft legislation to nullify the congressional pension of Eric Swalwell due to the scandal surrounding sexual harassment and assaults involving him.

The Democrat representative from California announced on April 13, 2026, that he had resigned from his seat, claiming innocence of the accusations. Under current regulations, he could have earned roughly $22,000 per year in pension benefits paid for by taxpayers.

Boebert posted a video clip on X, formerly known as Twitter, highlighting her intentions regarding the legislation.

“This is a man who sexually assaulted numerous women while serving in Congress,” Boebert said. “As it stands now, taxpayers will continue to send him tens of thousands of dollars every year. This is completely unacceptable.”

In addition, she continued, “I’m looking for ways to cancel his congressional pension along with others. Eric Swalwell must not get another taxpayer dollar ever again.”

However, the proposed legislation will target not only Swalwell but also other former representatives guilty of misconduct. Rep. Lauren Boebert revealed that she would introduce the bill to deprive another former representative, Tony Gonzales, of receiving congressional pension benefits.

Moreover, this has sparked debate over whether there should be a comprehensive change to the law so that no legislators who have committed crimes during their tenure receive pensions.

There has been much discussion on social media following the news release.

“Why will this help her constituents and Americans at large?” asked an individual on social media.

On the other hand, some people were quite supportive of Boebert.

“She may not represent my constituency; however, if she did, I would have voted for her 1000 times over!”
