Former CWU Soccer Standout Bryn Waite, 26, Found Dead Off Popular San Diego Beach

A former college soccer player has been identified as the woman found dead in shallow waters in the vicinity of La Jolla Shores Beach in San Diego earlier last week.

According to FOX 5 San Diego, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that the victim’s identity is Bryn Waite, 26 years old. An emergency response team arrived at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday following a report of an unresponsive person floating in shallow waters in the area of Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Pier, said the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Bryn Waite was pulled from the waters by the lifeguards and declared dead on the spot, NBC 7 San Diego stated. A passerby noticed her in the water and informed the relevant authorities, according to FOX 5.

Emergency crews consisting of officers from the San Diego Police Department and firefighters from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Lifeguards were present at the scene. The investigation into the incident was to be carried out by the police department, according to fire officials, as stated by IBTimes UK.

Currently, the cause and manner of death of Waite are unknown, as the MedicalExaminer’ss Office describes the place of injury as “Ocean – Undetermined” and does not mention the date and time of the incident. No information is provided regarding any suspicious circumstances of the death or Waite being reported missing before.

Bryn Waite, originally from Anchorage, Alaska, was a defender who played for Central Washington University in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, in 15 games with 8 starts, and recorded 2 assists. During her college soccer career, she also earned a spot on the All-Academic Team, according to Central Washington University’s athletic department records.

According to The California Post, her friends described Waite as “incredibly sweet, genuinely kind,” with a “beautiful spirit.” Another friend, who knew Waite from the church and saw her the week before the incident, stated that she “listened and loved”; she liked animals and the beach.
