Former Mayor of Mexico City’s Cuauhtémoc Borough, Sandra Cuevas, is being widely praised online for her looks amid Mexico’s successful run in the World Cup.
The 40-year-old politician served as mayor of Cuauhtémoc Borough from October 2021 to March 2024. Afterward, she launched a business venture and continues to be in the limelight, having 237K followers on X (previously Twitter). She shared clips of herself attending the World Cup celebrations.
Most of the comments focus on her figure, with people praising her cleavage and comparing her to Mar Castro, a model nicknamed ‘La Chiquitibum’ after an advert from the 1986 World Cup. Cuevas noted she considers the nickname a compliment.
“The Chiquitibum … well, guys, what can I do, I can’t just take them off,” Cuevas said, according to The Sun. “They had already nicknamed me that, and it amuses me; I like it. I don’t take it as an attack; there will be those who think that way and take it in a derogatory way, but that’s how we Mexicans are.”
Cuevas gained popularity for her flamboyant political style while serving as mayor. According to El País, her inauguration was marked by a red carpet, fireworks, and butterflies, and Cuevas threw balls with money to her supporters from her office balcony.
The new wave of interest in the politician is occurring amid Mexico’s successful start to the tournament. The National Team was the first to enter the knockout round, defeating South Korea 1-0 following a 2-0 victory over South Africa.
Cuevas confirmed her attendance at the celebration online.
On June 12, she shared a tweet stating that she attended the celebration of the victory over South Africa, noting: “2026 FIFA World Cup: Long live Mexico, from the Angel of Independence in our Cuauhtémoc borough!”
A week later (June 19), Cuevas shared a video of Mexico’s victory over South Korea. She mentioned, “Here in the front row to celebrate the triumph of the Mexican national team, with the neighbourhood, with the people, enjoying life and our most beautiful!”
The posts received many replies.
