Bringing a fresh perspective to the multifaceted themes of sex, romance, and family dynamics, the Taiwanese comedy series Let’s Talk About CHU is set to premiere on February 2, exclusively and globally on Netflix. Co-produced by Machi Xcelsior Studios and Lucky Sparks Films, the contemporary and heartwarming series is directed by the award-winning Remii Huang, known for her work on “At the Moment.”

Let’s Talk About CHU navigates the intricacies of love and relationships through the lens of different generations within the Chu family. The story unfolds on New Year’s Eve, thrusting the struggles of “love” and “sex” within the Chu family into the spotlight.

The youngest daughter, Chu-ai (Chan Tzu-hsuan), a wax therapist with a sex education social media channel, embraces the mantra “Make love, not fall in love.” Her journey unfolds through a friends-with-benefits relationship with Ping-ke (Kai Ko), who shares her skepticism about love. Meanwhile, her older sister Chu-wei (Kimi Hsia) faces marital challenges, and her brother, Yu-sen (JC Lin), grapples with the aftermath of a breakup.

Amidst the backdrop of strained parental relationships (Miao Ke-li and Hong Sheng-te), the series delves into whether Chu-ai can navigate her way to self-discovery, satisfying her desires, and establishing meaningful connections.

Director Remii Huang, drawing from personal experiences, aims to initiate open conversations about sex—a topic often avoided in Asian cultures. The comedy-drama boldly tackles contemporary relationship issues, emphasizing the importance of dialogue about sexuality for fostering healthy relationships.

Actor Kai Ko, reflecting on the script, notes, “Each family member in the Chu family represents a different age group and their values, examining life through the different facets of sexuality.” Lead actress Chan Tzu-hsuan adds, “Let’s Talk About CHU is a unique series, and seeing how each character navigates their trauma is the most touching aspect for me. I am particularly excited to take on the challenging role of Chu-ai.”

Let’s Talk About CHU features a star-studded cast, including Chan Tzu-hsuan, Kai Ko, JC Lin, Wu Chien-ho, Kimi Hsia, Umin Boya, Miao Ke-li, and Hong Sheng-te. With its bold approach to storytelling and a cast ready to tackle the complexities of relationships, Let’s Talk About CHU promises to be a must-watch series that transcends cultural boundaries.
