Cube Entertainment announced on January 24 KST that (G) upcoming second full-length album, ‘2,’ which will be released at 6 PM on January 29, has already received an astounding 1.8 million pre-orders. This impressive figure outpaces the 1.1 million pre-orders for their previous release, ‘I Feel,’ setting a new domestic record for the group.
Surprisingly, (G)I-DLE’s ‘2’ has received 1.8 million pre-orders, placing it second in K-pop girl group pre-order history. BLACKPINK’s ‘Born Pink’ set the current record of 2 million copies in 2022, while Aespa’s ‘MY WORLD’ is in second place with the same number of pre-orders.
With the comeback approaching, (G)I-DLE is expected to break records, especially given their previous million-seller status with ‘I Feel,’ which peaked at 41 on the US Billboard main album chart, ‘Billboard 200.’
Given their previous success, (G)I-DLE’s entry into the North American market adds to the excitement. Their American EP, ‘HEAT,’ debuted at number 25 on the ‘Billboard 200’ in October of the previous year.
Despite the controversy surrounding the pre-released song “Wife,” which was deemed unfit for broadcast by KBS’ music review, it appears to have generated “noise marketing” and only increased interest in the album. As the countdown to the release of ‘2’ continues, (G) potential impact on the global music scene remains a source of intense speculation.
