Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who became widely known for the tragic events surrounding her mother’s death, has reached a new chapter in her life with the arrival of her first child.
On January 1, Gypsy, 33, shared with TMZ that she and her boyfriend, Ken Urker, 31, welcomed their daughter, Aurora Urker, on December 28, 2024, in Louisiana. The birth date marks a poignant milestone, as it coincides with the one-year anniversary of Gypsy’s release from prison on parole.
“Aurora is healthy and we are so happy,” Ken told TMZ. The couple, who had previously announced their pregnancy plans in July, have been thrilled to embrace the next phase of their journey together.
In a YouTube video shared with fans last summer, Gypsy revealed she was expecting, expressing her excitement over the pregnancy. “I’m happy to announce that I am 11 weeks pregnant. Ken and I are expecting our very first child come January of 2025,” she said. “We’re both very excited. This was not planned at all. It was completely unexpected.” Gypsy’s emotional openness with her followers was evident, as she recounted the moments leading up to the discovery of her pregnancy. Despite struggles with fertility, including irregular ovulation, she was surprised by the news after missing her period. Encouraged by Ken, she took a pregnancy test, confirming the life-changing news.
Throughout the pregnancy, Gypsy regularly kept her fans updated, sharing photos of her growing baby bump and offering insights into her experiences. She and Ken also appeared on an episode of Nick Viall’s The Viall Files podcast in October, where Gypsy reflected on the bittersweet reality of becoming a mother while grappling with the loss of her own. “For me, it is heartbreaking because I do, from time to time, think about what could have been, and it makes me sad,” she shared. “So, I kind of put that in the back of my mind.”
The topic of Gypsy’s late mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, who tragically passed away in 2015, also came up during the podcast. Gypsy admitted that her daughter would never know her grandmother, noting the profound sadness that accompanied this realization. However, she spoke warmly of her stepmother, Kristy Blanchard, who she views as a maternal figure. “Kristy is going to be grandma to my child,” Gypsy stated, acknowledging the strong bond she shares with her stepmom.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard first gained national attention after being convicted in the 2015 death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, a woman believed to have suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a psychological condition where a caregiver causes illness in another person to gain attention. The abuse Gypsy endured for years at her mother’s hands ultimately led to the tragic incident. While Gypsy was sentenced to prison, she was released on parole in December 2023 after serving part of her sentence.
Her now-estranged ex-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, who played a role in Dee Dee’s death, remains in prison, serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
In the same podcast episode, Ken Urker opened up about his reaction to Gypsy’s pregnancy news shortly after they reconciled. “It was very much too soon,” Ken confessed. “At the same time, it’s a child. It’s a blessing.” He admitted feeling a mix of emotions when he first learned of the pregnancy, needing time to process the news before fully embracing it. “Let me call you back in like 10 minutes,” he joked, recounting how he needed a moment to breathe and gather his thoughts.
With Aurora’s birth marking a new beginning for the couple, Gypsy and Ken look to face the challenges and joys of parenthood. As they adjust to their new roles as parents, they are determined to move forward, appreciating their daughter while reflecting on their tumultuous pasts.
