HBO, in association with Warner Bros. Television, has announced key creative appointments for its highly anticipated original Harry Potter series. Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on HBO’s “Succession,” “His Dark Materials,” and “Killing Eve,” has been named showrunner and executive producer. Mark Mylod, who has directed episodes of HBO’s “Succession,” “Game of Thrones,” and “The Last of Us,” will serve as executive producer and director of multiple episodes. This new series is currently in development and will be available on Max’s expanding global platform.
The upcoming series will attempt to be a faithful adaptation of the beloved “Harry Potter” book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling. Featuring a new cast, the series aims to introduce the magical world of Harry Potter to a new generation of fans while maintaining the rich detail and beloved characters that have captivated audiences for over twenty-five years. Each season will bring these incredible adventures to life for viewers around the world, complementing the original, classic films that remain a cherished part of the franchise.
The series will be written and executive-produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The executive production team also includes J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, as well as David Heyman of Heyday Films.
