HBO has acquired “Industry” for a fifth season, which will be its last and conclude the story of high finance by creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay.
This announcement comes as the series finishes its fourth season, with eight episodes airing on Sunday, March 1. The series airs on HBO at 8 p.m. ET/PT and is available on HBO Max an hour earlier than usual.
Viewership for Season 4 of “Industry” is reportedly 30% higher worldwide than for Season 3, with 1.7 million viewers in the United States across all platforms and still increasing.
“For four seasons, Industry has thrilled us with its take on power, money, politics, and class,” says Francesca Orsi, HBO EVP of Programming and head of Drama. “Under the ambitious and singular vision of creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, Industry has become a standout contemporary drama series in our lineup and has been lauded for its tension and its performers.”
“Industry,” created by Down and Kay, is about a group of young bankers and their pursuit of ambition, relationships, and the cutthroat world of London’s banking. The fourth season of “Industry” centers on Harper (Myha’la) and Yasmin (Marisa Abela) as they become embroiled in a struggle for world power and influence sparked by a flashy fintech startup.
The fourth season of “Industry” stars a large ensemble cast of actors, including Kit Harington, Ken Leung, Max Minghella, Miriam Petche, Sagar Radia, Toheeb Jimoh, Charlie Heaton, Amy James Kelly, Roger Barclay, Andrew Havill, Kiernan Shipka, Kal Penn, Jack Farthing, Stephen Campbell Moore, Claire Forlani, and Edward Holcroft.
Down and Kay have stated they have been contemplating ending the show on a high note for a very long time. In a joint statement, they said:
“We’re lucky to be part of the small, elite group of dramas that last five seasons on HBO. We’ve been working on this show for nearly a decade. We want to finish the story on an unparalleled high. We’d also like to thank the cast, crew, and fans who’ve been with us since the very beginning.”
The executive producer and CEO of Bad Wolf, Jane Tranter, said the show has exceeded expectations since it was pitched. It is a bold, uncompromising drama that has grown alongside its cast and crew and has gained a loyal fan base.
Season 4 has received positive acclaim from critics. Several have called it the boldest and most confident season of the show yet.
“Industry” is a Bad Wolf production for HBO and the BBC. Down and Kay are the creators, writers, and executive producers. The other executive producers include Jane Tranter, Kate Crowther, and Ryan Rasmussen from Bad Wolf. Kathleen McCaffrey from Little Gems and Rebecca Ferguson from the BBC also serve as executive producers. The directors of the fourth season include Down, Kay, Michelle Savill, and Luke Snellin. Joseph Charlton also serves as a writer for the season.
The fifth season is the show’s final season. It will conclude the characters’ stories and their quest for power in the world of big finance.
