Production is officially underway in Belfast, Northern Ireland for the highly anticipated HBO drama series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” Based on George R.R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight,” the series takes viewers back a century before the events of “Game of Thrones.”
The story centers on two unlikely heroes: Ser Duncan the Tall, a young and courageous knight, and his squire, the enigmatic Egg. Together, they navigate a Westeros where the Targaryen dynasty still holds power and the memory of dragons lingers. Perilous journeys, powerful foes, and unexpected friendships await this improbable duo.
Joining the previously announced cast of Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell are several exciting new additions. Finn Bennett takes on the role of Aerion Targaryen, while Bertie Carvel portrays Baelor Targaryen. Tanzyn Crawford steps into the role of Tanselle, with Daniel Ings playing Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell bringing Maekar Targaryen to life.
The series boasts a talented directing team as well. Sarah Adina Smith, known for her work on “Lessons in Chemistry” and “Hanna,” will helm three of the six episodes. Owen Harris, who was previously announced as a director and executive producer, will also direct the remaining three episodes.
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is a collaboration between George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker, who serve as both writers and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw.
Fans of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” universe can eagerly anticipate the arrival of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in 2025, exclusively on HBO and HBO Max.
