According to federal officials, a 32-year-old Iraqi citizen believed to have received training from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps intended to assassinate Ivanka Trump as retaliation against the killing of Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani in a 2020 drone strike carried out by the United States.
Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi was detained in Turkey and brought back to the United States on May 15. According to federal prosecutors, Al-Saadi made threats to kill Ivanka Trump and even provided blueprints of her Florida home.
Al-Saadi reportedly stated to some other people: “We need to kill Ivanka to burn down the house of Trump the way he burned down our house,” in response to the death of Soleimani, sources close to the matter say.
Allegedly, the man published a map of the neighborhood where Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, reside in their multimillion-dollar Florida home, stating that the Secret Service would be unable to provide security for them. Moreover, he was in the “surveillance and analysis” stage of a possible attack, according to the prosecution.
In addition to his assassination plan, this man was also involved in the plotting and conducting of several other acts of terror against Americans and Jewish citizens in Europe. These include a burning vehicle incident in Amsterdam, a stabbing attack in London, a shooting outside the US consulate in Toronto, as well as synagogue and temple attacks in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Federal officials believe Al-Saadi to be associated with both Kata’ib Hezbollah and Iran’s IRGC.
