James Michael Tyler, Who Played Gunther In ‘Friends,’ Passes Away From Prostate Cancer

Actor James Michael Tyler died of prostate cancer at 59, his manager announced in a statement on Sunday.

Tyler was most known for his role as Gunther, the Friends’ omnipresent Central Perk barista and the “seventh friend.” Tyler was diagnosed with cancer in 2018, but he only revealed it publicly last June, during the famous sitcom reunion. Beyond his prominent role on Friends, the actor appeared on TV series including Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Just Shoot Me! and Scrubs.
