Netflix has officially greenlit the production of “Wednesday” Season 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to the successful debut season. The streaming giant has also pulled back the curtain on the ensemble cast, with Jenna Ortega reprising her role as the iconic Wednesday Addams.
Filming for the new season is underway in Ireland, adding a touch of mystique to the production, according to Variety. Tim Burton, known for his whimsically dark storytelling, returns to the director’s chair for the Season 2 premiere, titled “Chapter One: Here We Woe Again,” crafted by series creators Alfred Gough & Miles Millar.
Joining Ortega are familiar faces from Season 1, including Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer, all set to reprise their roles. But the excitement doesn’t end there, as Netflix has announced some exciting additions to the ensemble.
Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Isaac Ordonez, who made guest appearances in Season 1, have been elevated to series regulars, bringing even more depth to the Addams family dynamic. Fred Armisen returns as the beloved Uncle Fester, adding his signature comedic touch to the eerie ensemble.
Moreover, the cast expands with new faces, including Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor, each poised to bring their own flair to the mysterious world of Nevermore Academy.
However, one notable absence from the upcoming season is Percy Hynes White, who portrayed Xavier Thorpe. Following allegations of sexual assault against the actor, Netflix has decided not to recast the role.
Adding to the excitement, seasoned actors Steve Buscemi and Thandiwe Newton join the cast in undisclosed roles, promising to enrich the narrative with their talent and charisma. Buscemi’s rumored portrayal as the new principal of Nevermore Academy has sparked intrigue among fans.
Furthermore, “Wednesday” Season 2 welcomes back Christopher Lloyd, known for his iconic portrayal of Uncle Fester in the 1990s live-action films, alongside a stellar lineup of guest stars, including Joanna Lumley, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, Joonas Suotamo, and the return of Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin.
Despite the anticipation, a release date for Season 2 has yet to be announced, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further updates. In the meantime, viewers can revisit the eerie charm of Season 1, currently available for streaming on Netflix.
