We had the opportunity to sit down and chat with actor Lakeith Stanfield about his new role in the new upcoming film “Judas and The Black Messiah” , which is an historical drama that highlights William O’Neal who infiltrates the Black Panther Party lead by Chairman Fred Hampton in Chicago.
Directed by Shaka King, produced by Ryan Coogler and Shaka & Charles King, the movie tells the story, to many untold, the story of how Fred Hampton was murdered by Chicago PD and how William O’Neal played a role. Lakeith who plays O’Neal had a difficult task taking on the role and connecting to the character as best as possible. Lakeith opened up about how hard it was when he first received the role, not because he did not want it but he had no idea how to connect and understand who William O’Neal was at first. He did just that and more! Lakeith did a marvelous job not only connecting but executing the transitions and role William had to play , a black panther and friend to Fred Hampton and a man who worked with the FBI in order to stay out of prison . Lakeith did such a great job in this role he humanized the so called villain of the film and took you on an emotional roller coster with him.
Judas and The Black Messiah premieres everywhere in theaters and HBO Max on February 12th, 2021
