Justine Skye told her good friend Kendall Jenner that she would receive a negative backlash from people for sporting an Afro. Justine did a sit down with Entertainment Tonight, when she claimed that Kendall showed her some pics part of the Vogue shoot and apparently, she warned the model the snaps would be a big problem.
She did that shoot so long ago and she, like, showed me the photo. I was like, ‘People are going to come at you.’ I told her people were going to come at her,’ Justine tells the outlet.
As you may know, on Monday, Vogue released an official apology following the outrage on social media. Fans accused the magazine of cultural appropriation even though Kendall’s big hair was only reminiscent of an afro and not the actual hairstyle.
E! News shared the statement by Vogue that says: ‘The image is meant to be an update of the romantic Edwardian/Gibson Girl hair which suits the period feel of the Brock Collection, and also the big hair of the ’60s and the early ’70s, that puffed-out, teased-out look of those eras. We apologize if it came across differently than we intended, and we certainly didn’t mean to offend anyone by it.’
This is the third time Kendall Jenner has been involved in cultural appropriation. Kendall Jenner and Pepsi were imitating the BLACK LIVES MATTER movement and failed. They were accused by many for appropriating a nationwide protest movement following police shootings of African Americans.
Kendall and her younger sister Kylie were sued by Tupac photographer and the late Christopher Wallace (Biggie) estate for creating a T-Shirt collection of Tupac and Biggie. Biggie mom was not happy about this at all. Voletta Wallace says, the T-shirts was “disrespectful, disgusting, and exploitation at its worst.” Ms. Wallace is absolutely right about the sister exploiting two dead legendary icons.
Kendall Jenner has done this way too many times and she will most likely do this again because nobody in her camp is not encouraging her to correct her mistakes on cultural appropriation.
