Ana Montana, long-time girlfriend of Minnesota Timberwolves point guard LaMelo Ball, is being charged with felony offenses in North Carolina for allegedly using a doctor’s stolen prescribing information to acquire the anxiety medication alprazolam, as revealed through the booking record obtained by TMZ.
According to the booking records, the 37-year-old Montana, whose legal name is Analicia Chaves, was arrested in Mecklenburg County in North Carolina on Monday. The model is charged with two felonies of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery and two misdemeanors of simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, and is set to pay a $20,000 bond for the felonies.
The warrant states that Montana allegedly obtained prescriptions for alprazolam, the generic name for Xanax, at Walgreens, using what she claimed were stolen Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration and medical provider identifier numbers from a doctor. This happened on February 21, and the warrant was released on September 22, six days before her arrest.
The name Chaves appears in the Mecklenburg County booking list on Monday, as noted by WCCB Charlotte; she is charged with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.
However, according to the defense, the accusations claim that a doctor who had used a forged DEA registration and national provider identifier (NPI) number prescribed the medication for Chaves, who went and got the prescription filled at a pharmacy. It should be pointed out that the possession charges seem to relate to the fact that she was found in possession of this medication following her trip to the pharmacy. NPI is the unique number used to identify health care providers in the U.S.
Under North Carolina law, obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or forgery is a Class I felony, the least serious felony classification. Simple possession of a Schedule IV drug is usually considered a misdemeanor. Alprazolam belongs to the group of benzodiazepines prescribed for anxiety and panic disorders.
There is no information yet about when Montana will go to court; however, there seems to be no involvement of Ball, who hasn’t made any statements regarding the situation.
The model and social media star, who has appeared in music videos for rappers such as T.I. and Rick Ross, is believed to have been dating Ball since 2021; in 2023, they made their relationship public.
Montana and Ball welcomed their first son, LaOne, in January, ESPN reported. The couple did not share the news until Mother’s Day, May 14, when Montana broke it to People magazine on the couple’s behalf.
With this announcement, Montana has introduced her non-profit foundation, I Am Fertility. It was established by Montana in an attempt to assist women who undergo infertility treatments, including in vitro fertilization, after having gone through the experience herself. The foundation gives two $5,000 grants to help pay for treatments.
Ball, 25, came to Minnesota that summer, as the Charlotte Hornets traded him to the Timberwolves in June. The trade, which took place on July 10, was part of a four-team deal that also included Naz Reid coming to Charlotte and pairing LaMelo Ball with Minnesota star Anthony Edwards in the backcourt. The three-time All-Star was selected with the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft; he played six seasons for the Hornets.
Ball posed for pictures at the Timberwolves’ media day on Monday at Target Center in Minneapolis. Minnesota will start its regular season in about three weeks.
