Influencer Reveals How She Fell For The Dolphin Trainer Who Got Her Dream Job: ‘I Found Him Rude and Arrogant’

Katy Hollick met her boyfriend, a dolphin trainer, unexpectedly during her internship at an aquarium in Belgium, even though she initially thought he was arrogant and rude.

Hollick met Will, a dolphin trainer who later became her partner, while researching dolphins for her university thesis. Although she always wanted to become a dolphin trainer herself, Hollick noticed that by the time she could apply for that position at the place where she conducted research, that job already belonged to her future boyfriend.

“I’ve always wanted to work with animals,” said Hollick. “I’ve always kind of had this thing where I love dolphins, but I thought, you know, I’ll never get to work with them.”

Hollick majored in animal care at university in Belgium, after gaining experience as a veterinary assistant before landing an internship at the aquarium, where she researched dolphins’ food preferences.

“When I went to do my internship, they actually had a job opening there,” she said. “I was like, ‘If that job is still open by the time I’m finished with my bachelor’s degree, I’m going to apply for that and become a dolphin trainer.’

“But then the slot got filled by him.”

Although she found Will attractive, Hollick said that he initially annoyed her with his attitude.

“I found him attractive. There was sexual tension, but I found him rude and arrogant,” she said. “I would ask him questions, and he would be like, ‘I don’t know. That’s not my job. Ask your mentor.’

“I was like, ‘Gosh, this guy’s so annoying.'”

Over time, her attitude towards him softened a little.

“He would go and train the dolphins, and he’d have his wetsuit half off,” she said. “Because he’s quite fit, I could see his muscles, and I found him very attractive.”

Later Hollick discovered that Will did that on purpose.

“I learned later that apparently he was only doing that to impress me,” she said. “He was always casually like, ‘Oh, can you help me zip up?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, of course.'”

It was funny that, in addition to being a dolphin trainer, Will once mentioned that his ideal woman would be an influencer, which Hollick was not at the time.

“He was like, ‘I’d love to date an influencer’,” she said. “I had nothing like that going on at the time, but I said, ‘You know what? I’d contemplated doing that once before.

Hollick was already dating someone at the time, so nothing really happened between her and Will at first. However, her feelings started changing after she had a strange dream about him.

The next day, after spending about half an hour alone in silence, Hollick told him about it.

“I said, ‘You know, I had a dream about you last night. I dreamt that I was giving you a blow job,'” she said. “He was like, ‘What the fuck?'”

They’ve never talked about this and just spent almost half an hour alone.

Even though Hollick had no plans to make her dream come true at the moment, her relationship ended a week later.

“I was like, ‘I don’t get any attention. I have to do all the cooking, all the cleaning. We never go out,” Hollick said. “And he was like, ‘Well, that’s your fault for allowing it.'”

“I was like, ‘That’s so mean of you to say.'”

Then she thought about it and understood that “I hate that he’s right.”

As soon as Hollick got single, the feelings could no longer go unnoticed.

They planned to meet before work, but suddenly a tire on Hollick’s car burst, leaving her without a ride.

“He biked to me and inspected the car,” she said. “He sat in the car with me and asked, ‘Well, what do we do now? I’ve got to go to work.'”

That’s when Hollick decided to act.

“I kind of just felt his bicep because I wanted to feel his muscles,” she said. “I thought, ‘Okay, I just need to cop a feel here.'”

Then they basically kissed and made out in the car.

The workplace romance got intense rather quickly. Hollick said that they would wait until their colleagues left to have sex in the parking lot.

“After work we would wait until everyone left and have sex in the car,” she said.

At first, they tried to keep their relationship secret, fearing it could affect Will’s job and Hollick’s internship.

“We were keeping it quiet because we didn’t want to lose his job or my internship,” Hollick said.

Ironically, an innocent gesture eventually revealed their secret.

“He used to make me tea at work during break, and we’d sit and drink it together,” Hollick said. “People started whispering, ‘You two are dating because you’re sharing tea.'”

That turned out to be the funniest way of revealing the truth.

Will would play another role in Hollick’s life later.

After finishing her studies, she started working as a veterinary assistant, treating dogs and cats, but she wanted more financial freedom and the chance to try modeling. With Will’s support, she eventually decided to become an influencer.

“I felt like things were just slipping by,” she said. “So many girls were doing this, and I thought, ‘I could actually be doing this too.'”

“He was also like, ‘Yeah, I think it’d be great. Go for it.'”

The decision paid off very quickly.

“It actually exploded pretty much after the second or third month,” Hollick said. “So much so that I could quit my day job and do it full time.”

The success meant that Will’s joke about dating an influencer came true.

Hollick says she has no plans to return to her previous job.

“This job has been such a dream to do,” she said. “I’m going to do it for as long as possible.”

Looking back, Hollick says that one of the most interesting things about Will was his ability to work with animals.

“I love a caring man,” she said. “To do that, you have to be intelligent enough to communicate with creatures who can’t talk to us in words. I think that honesty translates into real life.”

And as for becoming the very woman that Will once mentioned in a joke?

“Being a hot girl online isn’t such a bad gig, to be honest,” Hollick said.
