Michigan Father Threatened To Shoot Up His First Grader’s School Over Snack Time, Mom Says Their Son Had Been Coming Home Hungry For Weeks

A father from Michigan who made threats to shoot up his son’s elementary school due to a missed snack time will not be going back to jail.

David Scott Jr., a 44-year-old man, pleaded no contest in August to threats of committing acts of violence at a school and disorderly conduct. According to WDIV in Detroit, he was sentenced to 1 year of probation and 30 hours of community service on September 24. Other charges were dropped; namely, that he was a fourth-offense habitual offender with three prior offenses that included drug and weapon possession. There was also another charge of possessing ammunition as a prohibited person.

Judge Michael E. Servitto of Macomb County Circuit acknowledged Scott’s 100 days in county jail and ordered him to undertake anger management therapy and to pay $360 in costs. A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt; however, it is considered a conviction at sentencing.

This event occurred around 3:30 p.m. on October 22, 2025, at Pleasantview Elementary School in Eastpointe, approximately 12 miles northeast of Detroit. It is reported that Scott approached his son’s teacher at dismissal, asked why his son did not get snack time, then started yelling, swearing, and making threats while the staff, students, and parents were watching. According to the police report, he claimed multiple times that he would come the next day and “air the place out,” and this phrase is considered to mean a shooting.

Police arrested him less than 2 hours after the event. During the search of his house under a warrant, investigators discovered multiple rounds of ammunition, the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office states.

Peter J. Lucido, the Macomb County prosecutor, said, “There is absolutely no excuse for threatening violence against a school or its staff.” His bond was set at $150,000 in cash or surety, and the judge ordered a mental health evaluation. In January, 38th District Court Judge Kathleen Galen transferred the case to circuit court on all charges.

It was reported that the boy was not picked on individually and that none of the kids in his class had snack time that day. Investigators learned that his previous teacher let him take an extra snack, but the new teacher did not allow it. Eastpointe Community Schools has no official snack time.

Tykeissia Watkins, the boy’s mother, told WXYZ in Detroit that her son had been coming home hungry for weeks and that loud noises could overwhelm him and make him skip lunch, which made the snack even more necessary. She admitted her husband might have reacted too harshly but got upset because the problem was recurrent. “I really think it was blown completely out of proportion,” Watkins said. She was not present at the pickup that day and does not think that Scott made threats.

After the incident, Superintendent Christina Gibson said police patrolled the Pleasantview area the next day, extra district staff met the kids upon arrival, and recess was held inside the building. She underlined that the district treats every threat seriously and cannot accept such behavior.
