Marcel Johnson, a Michigan father who shared his fight against stage 4 cancer with thousands of supporters on social media, has died. He was 32.
Marcel died at 4:45 p.m. Monday, a day after he entered hospice care, his wife, Taylor Johnson, said in a TikTok video announcing his death. She said he spent his final moments surrounded by loved ones, as he had wished.
Throughout his illness, Marcel let followers watch his journey through both his hardest days and his best ones, drawing an outpouring of love and support.
“Hey guys. So Marcel is no longer with us,” Taylor said in the video. “He transferred to hospice Sunday. Like you guys know. He passed last night in her house. Which is what he wanted. He didn’t want it to be just me and him in the room. Nov. 2 at 4:45 p.m. So happy and proud to say I respected his wishes until the very end.”
She said she was struggling to imagine life without him.
“I don’t know. I don’t know where we go from here. He was like the leader of everyone,” she said. “I was able to stay with him like eight hours after. And I just wish they could have left him forever.”
Taylor said her husband would have wanted her to share the news with the people who followed him.
“I know he would want me to make this video. He took you guys on the whole entire journey. He showed you the worst days and the best days,” she said. “I thought I was gonna wake up and this was all just gonna be a bad dream. He was the strongest, strongest person I know. He was ready to go though. I’m so tired and exhausted. Thank you for coming along on this journey with us.”
Taylor also wrote about his final day in a Facebook post, describing the moment he spoke to her and to his younger brother, Dedric.
“November 2 2026 @ 445pm. I lost a whole entire half of me,” she wrote. “He fought so hard for so long. He was so tired & exhausted & in so much pain. Yesterday the only words Marcel said all day were to me & Dedric and it was ‘I’m ready to go’ and that was in the morning. He still fought to hang on all day so we just got a bit more time.
“I truly don’t even have words right now. I feel like this can’t be real life. How can this be real fucking life. I thought I was going to wake up and he was still going to be here beside me. I love him with my whole entire being and life will absolutely never ever be the same.”
“Yesterday, November 2nd, at 4:45 PM, a piece of me left this world that I’ll never get back,” Dedric wrote on Facebook. “My big brother, my protector, my built in best friend, and one of the biggest pieces of who I am took his final breath.”
Dedric wrote that his older brother became a father figure to him after their father died when they were young.
“I’ve spent so much of my life looking up to you, and I don’t think I ever truly found the words to explain just how proud I am to be your little brother,” he wrote. “Proud of the man you became, the family/foundation you built, the father you were to your boys, even a father figure to me having lost our dad so young, and the strength you showed even when life gave you every reason to give up.
“You fought a battle that had odds stacked against you from the jump and you faced every last minute of it with a courage and a tenacity that you were going to beat this shit, and I’ll admire that for the rest of my life. Saying you were strong is an understatement, you were a real life superhero. Having you as my big brother was the biggest blessing I’ve had in life. Losing you feels like losing a part of myself, a part of my history, and a piece of home that I can never replace.”
Dedric also pledged to support Taylor and the couple’s sons.
“But I need you to know something. That promise I made you wasn’t just something I said to give you peace. It’s a promise I intend to keep for the rest of my life,” he wrote. “Taylor and those boys will never have to question whether they Uncle Deej. I’ll be there for the birthdays, the milestones, the hard days, and all the little moments in between. I’ll do everything I can to make sure your boys grow up knowing exactly who their Dad was, how deeply he loved them, and how proud he would be of them. I’ll never be able to fill your shoes, but I’ll spend my life making sure they never feel like they have to walk through this world alone the way that you and I did.
“I don’t know how to navigate a world without you in it. I’ve already had to say goodbye to too many people I love, and I never imagined I’d have to figure out how to live without my big brother, too. There’s so much more I wanted us to experience together. So many conversations, laughs, memories, and years I thought we’d have. I hope you left this world knowing how loved you were, how proud I am of you, and how much of the man I am today exists because of you.
“You spent your life being my big brother, leading, and being my voice of reason. Now I’ll spend the rest of mine making sure your legacy lives on, and no one ever forgets, BIG CELLY! I love you more than words will ever be able to explain. Rest easy, big guy. Give mommy, daddy, nana and CR a big hug for me.”
