Following its world premiere at the San Sebastian Film Festival, where it was awarded the Golden Shell for best film, Netflix has acquired Laura Mora’s drama The Kings of the World / Los Reyes del Mundo in the Americas (ex-Colombia and Mexico).

The Kings of the World / Los Reyes del Mundo is a film about the disobedience, friendship, and dignity that exist in resistance. Rá, Culebro, Sere, Winny and Nano. Five boys live on the streets of Medellín. Five kings with no kingdom, no law, and no family, set out on a journey in search of the promised land. The subversive tale is told through a wild and endearing clan, somewhere between reality and delirium. A journey to nowhere, where everything happens.

Carlos Andrés Castañeda, Davidson Andrés Flórez, Brahian Stiven Acevedo, and Cristian Camilo David Mora round up the cast.

The new Netflix film penned by Mora and María Camila Arias had Cristina Gallego, Mirlanda Torres, Katrzyna Ozga, Nicolas Steil, Pilar Peredo, Edgard Tenembaum, Gerard Lacroix, Regina García Solórzano, and Elisa Fernanda Pirr serve as producers.

The film will be available on Netflix in Colombia and Mexico following local releases.

The Kings of the World is Colombia’s official selection for the 2023 Oscars Best International Feature category.
