Misty Roberts Clanton, the former mayor of DeRidder, Louisiana, who abruptly resigned from her position last week, has been charged with child rape. Clanton, 42, was arrested this week under allegations of engaging in sexual intercourse with a juvenile while serving as mayor.
The arrest followed an investigation by the Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit (LSP SVU). According to a statement from LSP SVU, “As the investigation progressed, LSP SVU conducted interviews with two juveniles, one of which was the victim. Both juveniles confirmed Roberts had sexual intercourse with one juvenile victim while employed as Mayor.”
Clanton has been charged with third-degree rape. She was arrested and subsequently released on a $75,000 bond.
Clanton’s sudden resignation and subsequent arrest have sent shockwaves through the DeRidder community, where she served as mayor. The investigation into the allegations is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
