The start date for Love Island’s upcoming summer season has been confirmed, and the full list of contestants will be revealed today, May 29, to help viewers prepare for the new season. The attractive singles will fly to Majorca to participate in the most popular reality television vacation.
Maya Jama will also make her summer debut after taking over as Love Island host from Laura Whitmore for the winter series. She discussed the upcoming season. See what she had to say about it below.
WTB: How does it feel to be back presenting your second series of Love Island?
MJ: It feels so exciting, I was full of nerves for my first series because I was wondering what it would be like. Now, I know I feel really ready and excited, I just can’t wait to get started! Now there’s a bit more of an expectation, I just want to make sure that I live up to that expectation again…. The pressure is on for my stylist because the dresses did very well last series!
WTB: What do you love most about being the host of Love Island?
MJ: I love being able to have a bit more of a personal relationship with the Islanders and being able to see all the behind-the-scenes of what goes into making the show. It’s a nice feeling to be involved in a show that I’ve loved and been a fan of for so long.
WTB: Now having one series under your belt, is there anything you’ve learned that you will bring with you onto the summer series?
MJ: I’ve learnt to try and get as much sleep as you can on the plane, although it will be very different this time because South Africa was a lot further than Spain! I’ve also learnt that everything can change so quickly, you can have an idea of who you think may win one minute and then it can all change the next day.
WTB: This summer marks series 10 of Love Island – if you had to pick the most iconic moment from the last ten years, what would it be?
MJ: It has to be when Maura was going to the hideaway with Tom but overheard him talking about her to the boys which led to her kicking off at him in the garden ! It was just the instant flip over, he nearly had a chance, but he got caught out and ruined it!
WTB: What traits do you think make for a great Islander?
MJ: I think being super confident and not afraid of going after what you want is a great way to be, you have to really want to find someone, but not be afraid of stepping on people’s toes in order to get them.
WTB: As the show’s anchor you must have lots of celebrities asking you questions at events and parties, who have you encountered that are big fans?
MJ: It’s not even celebrities, it’s just everywhere I go. I was in the airport recently going to America and the woman at immigration was telling me how much she loved the show. She was asking me questions about all of the Islanders. I wasn’t asked any questions about why I was in the country, but instead everything that went down last series!
WTB: Viewers loved your fashion moments last series, what can they expect to see with your Mallorca looks?
MJ: We haven’t decided yet, but I’ve said that I want to look beachy, sexy and fun. I’d say ‘Ibiza summer’ is the vibe I’m going for.
WTB: What’s your ultimate slow mo walk in song?
MJ: It would depend on the atmosphere of what I was walking in for, I really like the song ‘Maria Maria’ by Santana, I feel like that could be good.
WTB: If you could give one piece of advice to the new Islanders what would it be?
MJ: Make the most of it, it’s a once in a lifetime experience, you will never be in this position again so go for it, have no regrets and just get stuck in.
