Netflix is set to debut the highly anticipated Chinese-language period drama Perfect Match, produced by Huanyu Entertainment. The series is executive produced by Yu Zheng (Story of Yanxi Palace, Beauty’s Rival in Palace, Female Prime Minister) and directed by Yang Huan (Lost You Forever). This heartwarming drama promises a unique blend of clever dialogue and fresh takes on romantic and familial relationships.

The show stars Lu Yu-xiao, Wang Xing-yue, Ni Hong-jie, Liu Xie-ning, Dong Si-cheng, and more, and is set during the reign of Renzong in the Northern Song Dynasty. It follows the Li family, led by Madame Li (Ni Hong-jie), a wealthy matriarch from Luo-yang who is determined to find suitable husbands for her five vivacious daughters—collectively nicknamed “The Six Tigers of the Li Family.”

Realizing her daughters remain unmarried, Madame Li relocates the family to the bustling city of Bianjing, where they open a teahouse and embark on a quest to find love. The series combines elements of humor and heartfelt drama as the daughters navigate challenges in both business and romance, all while showcasing their resilience and wit.

Each daughter has a distinct personality that shapes her journey. The eldest, Shou-hua (Liu Xie-ning), is a widowed traditionalist. Kang-ning (Lu Yu-xiao), the third daughter, is fiercely independent and earns the nickname “The Rogue Tiger.” Hao-de (Ke Ying), the fourth daughter, is known for her brutal honesty, while the youngest, Le-shan (Huang Yang Tian-tian), is impulsive and full of energy. The second daughter, Fu-hui (Wu Xuan-yi), is married but reconnects with her family in surprising ways.

The drama also explores the Li family’s interactions with the lively Bianjing community, including Chai An (Wang Xing-yue), a wealthy landlord whose teahouse rivals the Li family’s business. Chai’s complex relationship with Kang-ning is marked by rivalry and unspoken affection, adding a layer of romantic tension to the narrative.

Ni Hong-jie reflected on her role as Madame Li, saying, “On set, we were mother and daughters; off-screen, we became close friends. The energy and laughter from the younger cast brought warmth to the production every day.” She also highlighted the meticulous historical research that went into creating an authentic portrayal of the Song Dynasty, from costumes to daily life.

Lead actor Wang Xing-yue described the experience as deeply rewarding. “It is an honor to take Perfect Match overseas and share our culture with a global audience,” he said. Co-star Lu Yu-xiao added, “It feels like the Li family from the Song Dynasty is connecting with the world. It’s incredible to bridge time and space in such a meaningful way.”

Set against the backdrop of traditional Chinese culture, Perfect Match is both a romantic comedy and a family drama. The series emphasizes themes of resilience, love, and community, all while introducing international viewers to the charm of Chinese period storytelling.

Perfect Match will launch exclusively and globally on Netflix soon, offering audiences worldwide a delightful glimpse into the world of the Li family and the intricacies of the Northern Song Dynasty.
