Mike Toth, a distinguished character and effects animator whose work significantly contributed to the Disney Renaissance era, passed away on December 29, 2024.

His daughter, Christine Vergara, announced his passing on the Cartoon Research Instagram page, attributing his death to a prolonged battle with alcoholism.

Toth’s animation career commenced in 1978 at Filmation Studios, where he worked on popular Saturday morning cartoons such as “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” “She-Ra: Princess of Power,” “Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids,” and “Tarzan.”

Beyond his professional achievements, Toth was remembered by his daughter as “the most generous, loving, kind-hearted person I knew.” She emphasized his deep faith and his tendency to treat everyone he met as lifelong friends. Vergara also highlighted the challenges he faced due to alcoholism, expressing a desire to raise awareness about substance abuse.

Toth’s legacy endures through the memorable characters and stories he helped bring to life, leaving an indelible mark on the animation industry and the hearts of audiences worldwide.
