Netflix Acquires Documentary Short Film ‘The Dads’ with Dwyane Wade as an Executive Producer

Netflix has announced the acquisition of Dwyane Wade’s “The Dads,” a documentary short billed as a quiet meditation on fatherhood, brotherhood, and manhood.

Stephen Chukumba, Frank Gonzales, Jose Trujillo, Peter Betz, and Wayne Maines are five fathers of trans children featured in the documentary. The father of slain gay college student Matthew Shepard, Dennis Shepard, will also appear in the upcoming Netflix documentary.

The Netflix documentary will follow the fathers as they go on a weekend fishing trip in rural Oklahoma in search of a common purpose across races, generations, and experiences. As the men cast their rods into the river, they talk about what brought them together: their love for their children.
