The Exorcist: Believer sequel’s first look has been released by horror producer Jason Blum, and it features a gnarly-looking double demonic possession.
The new film, directed by David Gordon Green, the director behind Blumhouse’s Halloween trilogy, sees Ellen Burstyn reprise the role as Chris MacNeil from William Friedkin’s 1973 film.
In the original, Chris enlists the assistance of two enigmatic priests to save her daughter Regan (Linda Blair), who has been possessed by an unknown entity. When two schoolgirls (presumably the heavily make-upped youngsters on the poster, Lidya Jewett and Olivia Marcum) succumb to evil spirits, she finds herself once more confronted with dark forces.
Ann Dowd, from The Handmaid’s Tale, plays a nurse, and Glass Onion’s Leslie Odom Jr. and Jennifer Nettles play the girls’ worried parents. Blair has also been rumored to have a cameo after being spotted on the set in March.
Blair previously stated that she had not been approached by Blumhouse to appear in the new film. Regan hasn’t appeared on screen since 1977’s Exorcist II: The Heretic, in which a teenage Regan is estranged from Chris and narrowly escapes a supernatural death before being taken under the wing of Father Philip Lamont (Richard Burton).
