Patrick Mahomes Sr., the father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was detained by Tyler police on Saturday for “driving while intoxicated, third or more,” according to online records.
Mahomes Sr.’s second DWI offense after his last one in 2018 resulted in a guilty plea and a 40-day jail sentence served on weekends between February 2019 and February 2020. Mahomes Sr. is currently held in the Smith County Jail on a $10,000 bail.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. had a successful career as an MLB pitcher, playing for numerous teams in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He had his professional career with the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also acquired international experience playing in Japan.
The timing of Mahomes Sr.’s arrest raises concerns because it comes only eight days before his son, Patrick Mahomes, is scheduled to play in his fourth Super Bowl. The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to meet the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday, February 11, with kickoff at 5:30 p.m. Central time at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
