Peaky Blinders star Paul Anderson received a £1,345 fine for drug possession, including crack cocaine and other substances, following an incident on Boxing Day.
The 48-year-old actor, best known for his role as Arthur Shelby in the acclaimed series, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court in London on January 25, 2024.
Anderson pleaded guilty to all four charges, which included possession of crack cocaine, class B amphetamines, and two class C prescription drugs.
The Daily Mail expressed concern that this conviction would have a “significant impact” on the development of the Peaky Blinders’ feature-length climax.
Despite the actor’s guilty plea, his defense attorney, Moira MacFarlane, argued that Anderson, while well-known for his role in Peaky Blinders, found it easy to slip into character due to the nature of the show.
MacFarlane stated, “He is often recognized and does his best to please fans of the show by slipping into character. He was recognized that Boxing Day and tried to pay up for these people. And because of the lifestyle he leads, people often give him inducements.”
The fine comes at a critical time for Anderson, who was expected to play a major role in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, which is set to begin production this summer.
The impact of this legal incident on the film’s development remains unknown, with the Daily Mail’s source emphasizing potential consequences for the highly anticipated project.”
Paul Anderson, best known for his role in Peaky Blinders, also appeared in the 2015 Kray brothers biopic Legend, alongside Tom Hardy, and recently starred in the Netflix film Lift.
The actor’s legal situation raises concerns about the wider implications for his career and the future of Peaky Blinders’ cinematic adaptation.
