Pokimane Bids Farewell to Twitch After a Decade, Chooses YouTube for Streaming

Popular streamer Pokimane, real name Imane Anys, recently made headlines for a big change in her platform of choice. The online sensation, recognized for her engaging content and lively attitude, has opted to go from Twitch to YouTube for her livestreaming activities.

Many fans are surprised by this shift, given that Twitch has been Pokimane’s primary streaming platform for a decade. With a large Twitch following, she has established a strong community and become one of the platform’s most well-known individuals. However, change is unavoidable in the business of content creation, and Pokimane’s decision to transition to YouTube marks a new chapter in her online career.

One of the driving forces behind this decision is undoubtedly YouTube’s increased emphasis on livestreaming. YouTube provides content creators with a variety of ways to communicate with their audience, including Super Chat, memberships, and a greater reach thanks to its integration with the world’s largest video-sharing network. Pokimane’s decision to use YouTube’s huge infrastructure and worldwide user base could be a deliberate move for developing her brand and reaching a wider audience.

The decision also raises concerns about the changing landscape of live-streaming platforms and the competitiveness between industry titans. Twitch has traditionally dominated the livestreaming industry, but recent movements, like as high-profile streamers switching to YouTube and Kick, point to a shifting dynamic.

Pokimane spoke to her community today, introducing her debut YouTube stream. She goes on to say, “let’s explore something new together.. no strings attached first ever YouTube stream tomorrow, feb 1st at 12PM PST see you there.” The stream is dubbed “YouTube Streamers vs. Twitch Streamers,” and it will feature streamers like Ludwig, Lilypichu, Sykkuno, Myth, Tinakitten, Foolish, 1AE, Filian, Josh Seki, and Ryan Higa. The epic battle will feature one game each of Valorant, League of Legends, and Codenames.
