Female directors make up the majority of nominees in the Golden Globes race for Best Director: Regina King, Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell are all nominated.

It is the first year more than one woman has been nominated.

Chloe Zhao (“Nomadland”), Regina King (“One Night in Miami”) and Emerald Fennell (“Promising Young Woman”) becomes the sixth, seventh and eighth women to be nominated for a Golden Globe for directing.

King also became the second black woman in history to earn a Golden Globe Award nomination for best director.
